The Portable Theater Project is an ongoing artistic exploration into what a performance space is, how we relate to and experience performative structures, and how to make theater more environmentally and socially just. For the Portable Theater Project I conceive, design, and construct theater spaces that can be easily moved from location to location. These structures confront many of the issues of the classical theater, breaking down the hierarchy we create dividing actor from audience, expensive seats from cheap seats, management space from performance space, even theater structure from theater piece. Each rendition of this project varies in scale and approach but the end goal is always the same; to create performance space that breaks down what is considered necessary and reconstructs it in an unexpected way.
